Using spatial analysis to make practical decisions
I use spatial analysis when the real question is where to focus, what to prioritise, or how location changes a decision.
Starting with the question
The useful part is rarely the map on its own. The work starts by identifying the decision, the people affected by it, and the limits of the available data. Only then does it make sense to choose an analysis or build a tool.
This can involve:
- service network and accessibility analysis
- location, coverage, and overlap questions
- spatial analysis for planning and prioritisation
- testing scenarios before changing a network
- turning a broad GIS idea into a workflow people can use
