Connecting GIS tools and workflows

This is the more technical side of my work: connecting GIS tools, databases, and data flows so that they support day-to-day work.

The work

A useful integration starts with the workflow rather than the stack. I look at where data comes from, who needs to change or use it, and what has to remain dependable when the system moves into daily use.

The work can involve:

• connecting desktop GIS, databases, web services, and field tools
• simplifying data movement between systems
• designing spatial data structures and access rules
• replacing fragile manual steps with maintainable workflows
• helping teams understand and operate the resulting system

Tools

I often work with PostGIS, GeoServer, QGIS, QField, Python, GeoPandas, and related open-source geospatial tools. The exact combination depends on the work the system needs to support.
